Matthew Labanciw
Tutor Forensic CSI & DVI
Having previously worked for six years for Gwent Police and the Joint Scientific Investigations Unit (JSIU) as a Volume Crime Scene Investigator (VCSI) & Crime Scene Investigator (CSI) Matthew has examined a wide range of crimes and incidents, from volume crimes such as Burglaries and Theft, to major incidents/crimes such as Murder, Sexual Assaults, Arson etc. As part of the investigation process of a major crime Matthew has also attended and assisted in several post mortems, carried out multi-agency investigations with Fire Service, Boarder Force, Counter Terrorism and worked with external Forensic Scientists.
He is experienced in attending and presenting forensic evidence in Magistrates, Crown and Coroner Courts.
Matthew completed an initial fire investigation module during the CSI Stage 2 course, and a further five day course with South Wales Fire & Rescue Service, one of a few CSI's to specialise in Fire Investigation within the JSIU. As a result of this role Matthew attended and examined numerous scenes relating to fire and arson including domestic and commercial properties, vehicles, accidental, deliberate, and fatal fires.
Transferring to the British Transport Police as a Scenes of Crime Officer (SOCO) Matthew also qualified as a National Disaster Victim Identification (DVI) Officer.
Matthew adds great value to the FireWiseUK Fire Investigation courses with his knowledge and experience of scene management, forensic strategy, evidence recognition, preservation, documentation and recovery.
